Cyberbullying Guide

Cyberbullying is bullying that happens through digital devices. It can feel inescapable, but there are ways to protect yourself.

What to Do

Don't Respond
Do not reply to hurtful messages or comments. Responding often escalates the situation and gives the bully the reaction they want.
Save the Evidence
Take screenshots of messages, posts, comments, and any other digital evidence. Save URLs, timestamps, and usernames before anything gets deleted.
Block and Report
Block the person on all platforms. Most social media apps, games, and messaging services have reporting tools — use them.
Adjust Your Privacy Settings
Set your accounts to private, limit who can contact you, and review who can see your posts. Remove unknown followers.
Tell a Trusted Adult
Show a parent, guardian, or teacher the evidence you've saved. They can help report it to the school or authorities if needed.
Report to the Platform
Use the platform's reporting system. Most platforms take harassment seriously and will remove abusive content and suspend accounts.

Additional Tips

Don't share passwords with anyone except a parent or guardian.

Think before you post. Once something is online, it can be saved and shared even if you delete it.

Take a break. If online harassment is overwhelming, step away from your devices. You have the right to disconnect.

If it involves threats or illegal content, contact local law enforcement immediately.
